How MileageSnaps Works

Simple, fast, and accurate mileage tracking in just 4 steps

Step 1

Download & Set Up (One Time Only)

Getting started with MileageSnaps takes less than 2 minutes:

  • Download the app from the App Store (free to try)
  • Create your account with email or Apple Sign-In
  • Grant camera permission so we can read your odometer
  • Add your vehicle (make, model, year - optional but helpful)
  • Choose your work categories (Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Client Visits, etc.)

💡 Pro Tip: Set up your custom tags now (like "Uber AM Shift" or "Client Meetings") to save time later.

Step 2

Start Your Work Shift

When you're about to start working (driving for Uber, making deliveries, visiting clients), do this:

  1. Open MileageSnaps on your iPhone
  2. Tap "Start Shift" on the home screen
  3. Point camera at odometer and snap a photo
  4. OCR reads the number automatically (verify it's correct)
  5. Select your purpose (e.g., "Rideshare - Uber")
  6. Tap "Save" - you're done!

Time required: 5-10 seconds

🚗 When to do this: Right before you accept your first ride/delivery, or when you leave for your first client meeting.

Step 3

Work Your Shift (App Does Nothing)

This is the best part - MileageSnaps does absolutely nothing while you work:

  • No GPS tracking in the background
  • No battery drain from location services
  • No notifications interrupting your work
  • No privacy invasion - we don't know where you go
  • Phone stays in pocket - drive normally

You drive, deliver, or visit clients just like always. Your phone battery lasts all day. Your privacy stays intact.

🔋 Battery Savings: GPS mileage trackers drain 20-40% battery per day. MileageSnaps uses 0%.

Step 4

End Your Shift & See Your Deduction

When you're done working and heading home:

  1. Open MileageSnaps again
  2. Tap "End Shift" (or tap your active shift)
  3. Snap another odometer photo
  4. App calculates miles (ending - starting odometer)
  5. Review & confirm the shift details
  6. See your tax deduction ($0.70/mile × miles driven)

Example: Started at 45,230 miles, ended at 45,312 miles = 82 miles × $0.70 = $57.40 tax deduction

💰 Pro Tip: Add notes like "busy night, 12 rides" or "3 client meetings downtown" for your records.

Common Questions

What if I forget to start/end a shift?

You can manually log past shifts. Just enter the date, odometer readings, and business purpose. Your records stay compliant.

Does OCR work on all odometers?

Yes! It works on digital and analog odometers, even trip meters. If OCR misreads, you can manually correct it in 2 seconds.

Can I edit a shift after saving?

Absolutely. Tap any shift to edit odometer readings, business purpose, notes, or even re-take photos.

How many shifts can I track per day?

Unlimited! Many drivers do 2-3 shifts daily (morning Uber, afternoon DoorDash, evening Lyft). Track them all separately.
